Relating to an electric customer education choice campaign, electric conservation by state agencies,
and diversity of energy supply.
The Texas State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (T.S.B.P.M.E.)
is charged by the State Legislature with licensing and regulating the practice
of Podiatric Medicine in Texas.
With regard to the requisite "State Agency Energy Savings Program," the
Board’s office is located at the William P. Hobby Jr. State Office Building in
Austin, TX. Since the Board is a tenant to the Texas Facilities Commission (T.F.C.; http://www.tfc.state.tx.us), agency staff has no direct control over
major energy use (i.e. HVAC System; Building Integrity). Nevertheless, the Board’s office is specifically located in
Tower 2; Suite 320 (southwest corner) of the Hobby Building.
To conserve energy and in being responsible tenants,
the Board performs the following functions within its capacity:
- All unnecessary (task & general) lights, appliances, and other equipment (personal computers, monitors, fax machines, coffee machine,
radios, etc.)
when not in use are turned off during and after the business hours. Otherwise, many of these machines/devices are equipped with "sleep"
modes/features that conserve energy when not in operation. The main database server and web server
are in continual operation for obvious reasons.
- The Board’s office has dual access to a single
patio facing Town Lake; located on the south side of the building. Both doors
to the patio are secured at all times and never left open to allow conditioned
air to escape or unconditioned air to disrupt the office climate.
- All windows in the Board’s office are tinted,
sealed and not able to be opened; therefore, there is no possibility of wasted
resources related to the escape of conditioned air.
- All blinds are adjusted accordingly throughout
the day in relation to the position of the sun to maximize heating and cooling
conditions. Vent grilles are not blocked by plants, books, or furnishings.
- The Board has no fleet program; therefore, there
are no energy concerns with vehicle use.
All efforts for energy conservation are utilized
by agency staff during and after business hours to accomplish agency missions.
Agency staff remain in constant contact with Hobby Building maintenance
personnel and the T.F.C. building manager to address all environmental issues. By regularly executing common sense, good judgment, reminders and treating this
office like “home,” we are able to limit energy expenditures as reasonably as
possible within the Board’s capacity.
